Abstract
To mitigate disasters caused by heavy rainfalls, the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED) has been implementing an advanced X-band radar network named X-NET since 2006. At present, two polarimetric radars of NIED, a Doppler radar of Chuo University, and a Doppler radar of NDA are networked. NIED plans to add an additional polarimetric radar into the network in 2008. JWA is considering the possibility of incorporating their Doppler radar into the X-NET. The goal of X-NET is to provide accurate and high-resolution precipitation data and wind data, which are useful to understand the mechanism of heavy rainfall developments and to improve their forecasting accuracy.
