Abstract
In order to investigate the mitigating effect of river on the thermal environment and clarify thermal environment of urban area, the authors performed observations in areas focusing on the River which is 10 to 30 m wide and formed rectangular cross-section beam. From the results of field observation, following results are obtained; 1) The temperature along the river shows the lowest among all of the observed points, except the heat source is close to the river, the temperature is not always the lowest. 2) Cross sectional observation lines show that the temperature along the street and along the river is about 2 degrees maximum. This difference has no relation with the wind direction or wind velocity in 44m altitude.
