Abstract
In this study “Melting layer” detected by X band polarimetric radar (XRAIN) was investigated. The feature of “Melting layer” gives important information for quantitative precipitation estimation. The 20 degree elevation was used for investigating melting hydrometeors. The analysis period was from October 2010 to October 2011 and the day when the daily rain amount was more than 10mm was object to study as analysis day. The ”polarimetric melting layer” (PML), which was defined by the minimum of co-polar correlation coefficient (ρHV), located lower than the ”reflectivity melting layer”(RML) which was defined by the maximum of radar reflectivity index known as brightband. The rainfall estimations by using variable coefficients according to the height difference between PML and RML were better than those by using fixed coefficients.
