Abstract
This study aims to investigate the influence of meandering restoration on river water level and groundwater level using observation data and on the basis of non-uniform flow calculation. In recent years, the meandering restoration was performed in Kushiro Mire in order to restore the natural environment. According to an investigation, it was found that the groundwater level in meandering restoration area appears to rise. Results from the 1-D non-uniform flow calculation suggested that meandering restoration causes rise in the river water level relating to the groundwater level. As a result, we surely demonstrated that the meandering restoration work inducing rising of groundwater level could be of use to recover the wetland environment.
