Abstract
Under the condition of water shortage caused by extremely lack of rainfall, it is very difficult to supply water to paddies in a pipeline irrigation area under the water supplement schedule. In the Hokuriku region, paddy fields suffered a serious water shortage in 1994. On the basis of investigation conducted in these paddy fields, the following researches were conducted and the related results were discussed. 1) Information and data were gathered by questionnaires and field investigation and problems under water shortage condition were found out. 2) A tank model was applied to determe the water requirement in the experimented field level. Results showed that 70.6% of required water were supplied during the irrigation period while rainfall is 27.1% of average level. 3) On the basis of pipeline network simulation considering the hydraulic property for water management and actually applied measures against water shortage by users, new measures to overcome the water shortage were suggested by using the currently available facilities and by using a slightly improved facilities.
