Abstract
The system of Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research from Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan is one of the oldest ones, which is the funding system for researchers belonging to universities and institutes in Japan. We report the adoption patterns of the Grant-in-Aid from 1985 to 2002 about the researchers who were awarded the large-scale funds in recent years. Moreover, we mention about an analysis of the role of the Grants-in-Aid to the basic research.
