In narratology, various structures such as scene sequences and human relationships are the targets of analysis, but a unified format is desirable for quantitative operations by computers. In this research, a method to describe a story as a hierarchical structure consisting of three major layers of story, quest, and scene is proposed. This is based on the knowledge about various structures of the stories obtained by the previous researches. By using the three-layer structure, it is possible to describe not only the scene sequences but also the characters and events in the story in a unified format.
