Abstract

We investigated the use of drone-based photogrammetry and digital content development for the purpose of constructing a 3D model and disseminating information about the Meidum archaeological site in Egypt. The site was constructed approximately 4,500 years ago and contains numerous mastaba tombs, including the world-famous “Collapsed Pyramid” of King Sneferu. To date, no comprehensive surveys have been conducted, and the use of new technologies to measure the entire site is expected to contribute to further research. The authors have been involved in 3D measurement of the ruins since 2019 and have constructed a 3D model of the pyramid. In August 2022, we conducted our third survey and obtained a 3D model of the entire ruins. This report describes the process of surveying and constructing 3D data using photogrammetry with drone, and discusses the creation of a 3D digital archive of the ruins and digital content that can contribute to regional development, such as historical education and tourism.
