Abstract
Reports on quadriceps tendon ruptures after TKA are extremely rare. We report the case of a 52-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis. TKA was performed on the right knee in 1992, but a skin ulcer developed two years later and the patellar component was exposed. In X-ray findings, ventral inclination of the patella and patella infra were shown. Surgical findings showed a rupture of the quadriceps tendon at the site of insertion to the patella and protrusion of the upper edge of the patellar component. It was considered that this component raised the skin, leading to the ulcer. In the operation, the patellar component was removed and the quadriceps tendon was firmly sutured to the patella. At present, front inclination of the patella has disappeared and the ulcer is healing satisfactorily.
