Abstract
We report the mid-term results of MG II knee joint replacement (TKA) for osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) . Follow-up was performed on 45 patients (51 joints) who underwent surgery between March 1991 and October 1995. Twenty-six patients (30 joints) had OA, and 19 patients (21 joints) had RA. There were 6 men and 39 women. The mean age at surgery was 58.4 years for RA and 72.3 years for OA.
The mean follow-up period was 7 years and 3 months. In almost all cases, surgery was performed without cement. To avoid problems with the patella, release of the lateral retinaculum was performed in almost all cases. Assessment of postoperative ROM showed that extension improved for both RA and OA patients, and the mean postoperative JOA score was 81.86 for RA and 69.4 for OA. On plain radiographs, a clear zone was observed in one case, but no PF joint problems were found. After mid-term follow-up of MG II TKA for a mean of 7 years and 3 months, results were generally favorable except for infection in one case and revision TKA in one case. Further follow-up will be necessary to assess the long-term outcome.
