Abstract
Recent advances and newer concepts in anesthesiology are introduced. For example, modern trends in premeditation, new inhalation anesthetics such as isoflurane and sevoflurane, new muscle relaxants and the concept of using a priming method with a non-depolarizing muscle relaxant, details of the fiber-bronchoscopic method for difficult endotracheal intubation, and newly developed monitoring systems for the observation of various vital functions during anesthesia.
Anesthetic hazards often encountered in RA patients are discussed from the viewpoint of the preoperative physical status of the patient. Recent alterations in the standards for cardiopulmonary resuscitation are also introduced.
