Abstract
Simultaneous bilateral total knee replacement was successfully carried out in five voluntary patients (ten knees), who were bedridden with knee contracture. There appear to be many benefits in this, if it is performed with careful planning and preparation. Precise evaluation of general preoperative conditions, repetitive simulation of operation procedures by RBSM, careful hemostasis during operation, and postoperative low pressure drainage under intensive care contributed to success. Our results show that simultaneous total knee replacement is not as deleterious as it has been considered, and that it encourages the patient to approach rehabilitation aggressively.
