Abstract
Composition of macrozoobenthos was studied monthly for one year in four tropical oxbow lakes along the Kahayan River, Central Kalimantan. During low water level period the abundances of macrozoobenthos in lakes Hurung and Batu (isolated from the main river) were very low whereas those were much higher in lakes Tehang and Bunter (onnected to the main river). Dissolved oxygen concentrations were much lower than the latter two. A total of 4 phylum consisting of 12 families and 20 taxa were found from these lakes with the highest number of taxa in Lake Bunter. The diversity indices of macrozoobenthos were 1.27-2.03, 1.58-2.26 and 0.81- 0.92 in lakes Tehang, Bunter and Hurung, respectively.
