Abstract
A total of 27 out patients of varying mental disorders received the treatment with acetylpromazine alone or in combination with electro-convulsive therapy. The responce was excellent on 6 cases, good on 11 cases and not effective on 10 cases.
This preparation was effective for the treatment of psychomotor excitement, depressive state, delusion, hallcination etc. The dosage required was approximately 1/3 to 3/5 of chlorpromazine. Larger dosage, however, is recommended for the expectation of sufficient therapeutic effect.
This preparation exceeds other phenothiazine derivatives by its extremely mild side effects enabling the administration of therapeutic dose over a prolonged period of time and thus requiring no hospitalization even for the treatment of advanced cases.
The use of this drug can eliminate or reduce the frequency of the application of electroconvulsive therapy.
