Abstract
Stated in the following are the findings of the studies made on the influence of 3 kinds of tetracycline compounds (tetracycline HCI, oxytetracycline HCl and chlortetracycline HCl) administered per os in á large dose (20.0 mg daily) on the growth, parturition, new borns and on the pathohistological findings of the liver and the kidney of developing mice.
1. Weight increase of developing mice was inhibited in the order listed, CTC→OTC→TC. This tendency was stronger on the pure bred DDB strain than that on the hybrid mice on market.
2. Tissue destructive influence on the liver and the kidney was in the order CTC→OTC→TC. This tendency was stronger on the pure bred than on the hybrid.
3. Female mice of DDB strain on the 6th week after birth received much weaker influence of tetracycline compounds than that observed on the mice under rapid development.
4. Growth of the litter born by the mating of mice under administration of a large dose of TC or OTC was better than that of the litter from the mice without the treatment. While, the growth of the litter born from the mice received CTC was poor demonstrating histological disturbance on the liver and the kidney.
5. Administration of TC or OTC in a large dose on pregnant mice showed no influence on the birth rate, while the administration of CTC lowered it. In comparison with the mice received no treatment, some of the mice received those drugs showed retardation in the period from mating to parturition, but there was no difference in the birth rate of new horns.
