Abstract
Association of sugar metabolism in the development of pruritus vulvae has widely been known. When external causes are known, however, little efforts have been made to examinee the abnormality of sugar metabolic functions.
Employing a total of 83 pruritus vulvae patients, blood sugar contents were determined by Schmor's thymolsulf ate test every 30 minutes for a period of 2 hours after loading 20 g of glucose in order to know the presence of any abnormality in their functions of sugar metabolism.
Results obtained showed that 72 patients (86.7 %), including 3 cases of diabetes mellitus, , showed abnormality in their functions of sugar metabolism. There was a close relationship, moreover, among this abnormality, viginal candida and uric sugar content.
Improvement in the functions of sugar metabolism as well as antipruritic effect were recognized on 8 patients who received a daily dose of 0.9-1.5 g of mesocalciumoxalate.
