Abstract
Recently, six cases of anencephalus were experienced.
The adrenal cortex of anencephalus was hypoplastic and the weight was about tenth of the normal baby. Luck of the anterior pituitary was observed Study of anencephalus is, important to clarify the mechanism of biosynthesis of estrogens. Urine of two cases of anencephalus pregnant women were analyzed for estrogens and plasma of other two cases were analyzed for estriol. Urinary estrogen level of anencephalus was lower than that of normal pregnancy. Urinary estriol concentration was 3.9 per cent of normal pregnancy. Plasma estriol concentration of anencephalus was about ten per cent of normal pregnancy but the ratio of the maternal antecubital vein and the umbirical vessels was equal to that of normal pregnancy.
