MULTIPLE MYELOMA ASSOCIATED WITH PLEURITIS AND PERICARDITIS

Abstract

77-year-old female was diagnosed as having IgA-λ type multiple myeloma from 1988. She was admitted to our hospital in February 1992 because of anemia, increased monoclonal IgA and pleuropericardial effusion. Numerous atypical plasma cells were seen in the effusion. Systematic chemotherapy was carried out, but was not effective. She died in April 1992. At autopsy, atypical plasma cells were found invading the pleura, pericardium and paragastal lymph node. It was a rare case of multiple myeloma associated with pleuropericardial effusion.
