Only recently, commercial solid-state imagers have demonstrated performance characteristics good enough to conventional image tubes. At present, solid-state imager applications are rapidly diffussing into many fields, including medical use. The solid-state imager is key device in a visial system, and gives many new kinds of visible information.
Of the five human senses, vision is the most dominant and most useful. It is very important to understand the basic human visual process, in order to achieve significant advances in regard to solid-stste imagers.
