Abstract
Shock waves appear in an astronomical scale when a super-nova explodes. In a microscopic scale, shock waves are generated when bubbles collapse in water. In our life, we always encounter shock waves or shock wave like phenomena, whether or not we can recognize them. Brief background of physics of shock waves and their connection to a recent application to “Extracoporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy” are described.
