Abstract
Poly(bisphenol-A-carbonate) (PC) was decomposed in the presence and absence of steam using a fluidized bed reactor. MgO or sand was used as bed materials. At temperatures between 350 and 500 oC mainly phenols were obtained in steam atmosphere, while in the absence of steam large amounts of residue were produced. Both MgO and sand showed catalytic effects in the presence of steam, however, with different tendencies. While in the presence of MgO at 400 oC the highest bisphenol-A (BPA) yield was achieved, with sand a similar BPA yield was obtained at 500 oC. However, lower temperatures resulted in a fission of BPA and an especially high yield in isopropenyl phenol.
