Abstract
In Iran, Waste Management Law was enacted in 2004, waste management businesses of the central and local governments has been restructured on the basis of this law. The law was defined that municipalities or local governments are responsible for implementing municipal solid management and responsible central authority/ministry is the Ministry of Interior. In order to work this new system, various training programs for human resources involved in the waste management business are conducting. From technical view points, improvement of landfill disposal sites, introduction of waste incineration technology in urban municipalities, and reform of institution and investment plan are the challenges for modernization of the municipal solid waste management.
