Abstract

Asbestos is a general term for natural mineral fibers, and was used for various industrial materials such as building materials. However, asbestos may cause health hazards such as lung cancer, so its use in Japan is currently prohibited in principle. In this study, we attempted to develop a quick asbestos detection technique that can be used for preliminary surveys associated with building demolition. As a result, it was clarified that asbestos contained in building materials can be easily detected by using N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DPD).It was also found that the color development by DPD and asbestos correlates with the amount of asbestos, and that the color development occurs by interacting with each other.
