Abstract
One of the authors, Tanaka, has previously analyzed the thermodynamic performance of simple, regeneration, reheat and regeneration-reheat types of gas turbine power plants. In this previous report an approximate calculation method was presented. Here the authors, using the same approximate calculation method, analyze the change in the thermodynamic performance when intercoolers are used in each type of gas turbine. First, the theoretical simple intercooling cycle is analyzed. Then the specific output and thermal efficiency of the simple type gas turbine with intercooler is calculated approximately. The specific output of the intercooling type can be significantly increased over that of the simple type ; it is inferior to the rate of increase of the specific output of the reheat type. The maximum thermal efficiency of the intercooling type is nearly equal to that of the simple type. Other interrelations among the performance and the intercooler efficiency, pressure ratio, turbine inlet temperature and pressure losses are also investigated.
