A method for the measurement of trapping efficiencies of a two-stroke gasoline engine through the exhaust gas analyses is investigated. Theoretical formulas for obtaining the trapping efficiency are introduced which can be applied to a rich or a weak mixture operation. The experiments are carried out with special precations to secure representative sample gases, and the gas analyses are conducted by a newly developed Orsat apparatus with excellent accuracy. It is shown, from the results of the present study, that the reliable trapping efficiencies are obtainable according to the authors' method.
