Abstract
It is important to establish a bond casting technology which incorporates two different functional materials. Diesel engine cylinder liner material strength has recently become the focus of intensive studies due to the requirements for high output and high thermal efficiency. Double-layered cylinder liners consisting of an inner layer (wear-resistant, flake-graphite cast iron) and an outer layer (high-strength, cast steel) were cast by the centrifugal casting method. The problems of the effect of carbon diffusion on microstructure, prevention of boundary-layer cracking and selection of flux material chemical composition were studied. These double-layered cylinder liners are confirmed to be applicable in practical manufacturing of large-bore diesel engines.
