Abstract
Flow performance of three VCFs placed in vein was evaluated in an in-vitro experimental test apparatus. Toward this end, a low-speed recirculating water channel was established. Three VCFs (Greenfield filter, TrapEase filter and ALN filter) were chosen for an extensive comparison at Re=500〜700. Nine types of in-house made cylindrical materials with different diameter and length were used to model the thrombus. Efficiency of trapping the different sized thrombus was obtained; pressure drop of the flow through VCFs was measured. A detailed view of the local complex flow over the VCFS with trapped thrombus was revealed by flow visualization. The in-vitro experimental data are of crucial significance to the clinic purpose.
