Abstract

This paper presents studies on a static three-dimensional elastic problem using FEM program ADINA of a finite thin plate containing a single circular hole under the uniaxial tensile condition. Such a plate containing holes is currently used in many engineering applications, while the design guidelines on the shape and the position of the holes is not described in JIS standard. Then, the designs are generally determined by numerical analyses or experiences on the related engineering cases. In this presents studies, the characteristics of the three-dimensional stress-strain field over the plate containing a hole are analyzed using a FEM technique, with variation in the diameter of the hole and the dimensions of the plate.
