Abstract

Lure fishing is a popular fishing type that using fishing lures instead of live baits. Vibration lure, a kind of hard lures, performs vibration behavior for catching fish. Hence, vibration lure has capable of appealing carnivorous fishes more efficiently when it owns higher fluid induced frequency. Currently, lure of design is mostly carried out based on the designers’ intuition and experience, whereas academic study of vibration lure is seldom considered. In this study, we perform the fluid structure interaction (FSI) analysis to reproduce the underwater motion of a commercial vibrating lure, where the finite element model of the vibration lure was obtained by a 3D scanner. Then, to enhance the fluid induced vibration behavior of the vibration lure, we carried out structural optimization using the Box-Behnken design, which is a type of design of experiment. From the results obtained from the structural design optimization method, the optimal fluid induced frequency could reach its maximum value of 6.95 Hz based on the FSI analysis.
