Abstract
This paper is concerned with a vibration control method for a nonlinear multi-degree of freedom system using an active mass damper(AMD). The sliding mode control theory has robustness for uncertain and nonlinear systems. In this paper, a five degree of freedom structure model with nonlinear stiffness which subjected to fundamental excitation is considered. The equation of motion for the structre is presented in modal coordinate. A mode synthesis method is apllied to the structure and an AMD. A fuzzy sliding mode controller is applied to control vibrations of the system with the AMD which is mounted on the top of the structure. In numerical example, the relative displacements and the velocities of masses can be reduced by the controller. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure with the AMD is demonstrated for suppression of vibrations of the system.
