Abstract
It is now an urgent subject for railway to decrease the vibration and noise of steel bridges. To develop effective countermeasures for this purpose, it is important to study the mechanism of this phenomenon, and establish a method to predict the noise and vibration of bridges, including structure-borne noise, which is characteristic of steel railway bridges. For this reason, the authors studied the method to predict the structure-borne noise of steel railway bridges. Since it is presumed that the structure-borne noise is generated mainly by the sound radiation from flexural vibration of bridge girder plates, an equation to calculate it has been derived based on the analysis of flexural vibration of plate.
