Abstract
Smart structure, which are equipped with embedded (or bonded) actuators/sensors using piezoelectric ceramics, piezoelectric polymers, magnetostrictor, and so on, are proposed mainly for structural control of large space structures A smart structure with three different controllers were evaluated for vibration control of cantilever steel beam of a 150mm×6mm section, 1325mm height and a 23kg total weight. Piezoelectric actuators integrated to the beam were used for the vibration control by bending moment control of them. The controllers were designed using the Model matching control theory, the H^∞ control theory and the LQ control theory. The tests showed all three controllers could effectively reduce the vibration of the test model. Controller method of he Model matching control were considered prospective.
