Abstract
Macroscopic visco-elastic properties of a polymer alloy with an island-sea structure are calculated under the shear applied stress by using the equivalent inclusion method combined with the Mori-Tanaka theorem. The effects of the shape and the shear modulus of the spherical island particle on the macroscopic shear modulus and loss factor of the polymer alloy are cralified in the form of the two-dimensional contour map. Consequently, it is found that an optimum range on the aspect ratio and the shear modulus of the particle exists for achieving the disirable magnitude of the complex shear modulus of the the polymer alloy used in a constrained damping material.
