Abstract
Having the mission of a satellite become more complicated and multiple, especially an earth observing satellite must satisfy the two ambivalent requirements, or high agility and high accurate pointing. In order to achieve this requirement, this paper uses Variable Speed Control Moment Gyros or VSCMG as a satellite attitude control actuator and proposes a new steering law of VSCMG. VSCMG is a single gimbal control moment gyros where the wheel speed is allowed to be variable and is able to act like both CMG and RW. Proposed steering law is especially designed for a small earth observing satellite such as disaster monitoring one which is required high agility and pointing accuracy. The numerical simulations are carried out by giving a rest-to-rest maneuver and confirm the validity of this proposed method.
