Abstract
Squeeze film damper has been widely used in important rotating machinery such as aero engines to attenuate vibrations and to improve the system stability. This paper proposes an expansion of application of the damper for small and medium sized rotating machinery. A new design of the damper consists of the thin ring and special patterned wire cut grooves. This damper has centering spring mechanism and damper clearance in only a damper ring. Author aims to apply this damper to the rotating machines which has a rotor system supported on oil film beatings and to verify improvement effect on vibration characteristic.
