Abstract
This study describes a nonlinear vibration behavior of a cylindrical water storage tank under large excitation and the numerical simulation by finite element method. When the tank is excited largely, its maximum response does not grow in proportion to the input. It is found that this phenomenon is caused by the coupling between the beam-type vibration and the oval-type vibration. The dynamic and large deformation analysis considering the coupling between fluid and structure is performed by the finite element method in order to simulate this phenomenon. The analytical results agree with the experimental results very well.
