Abstract
Experimental results are presented on chaotic vibrations of an annular plate with a concentrated mass in this paper. To investigate effects of the mass on chaotic vibrations of the plate, chaotic responses are inspected by time histories of multiple positions, the Fourier spectrum, the Poincare projection and the Lyapunov exponent. Furthermore, principal component analysis is adapted on the chaotic responses of the plate to confirm modal contributions of multiple vibration modes. The chaotic response of the plate without the mass shows irregular motion accompanied with traveling waves. As the concentrated mass increases, the chaotic response with irregular motion of traveling waves decreases to the quasi-periodic response.
