Abstract
Impact vibration of beam was treated as an example of the impact vibration of continuous system and following points were researched. (a) A number of modes to express the impact vibration phenomena sufficiently. (b) How affect a damping of the beams the impact vibration. The followings were made clear. (1) By adopting six modes, the theoretical results and the experimental ones agree well each other. (2) The damping of a higher mode strongly influences a bifurcation. (3) From the viewpoint of the engineering, the transition from periodic motion to chaos is interpreted as the grazing bifurcation.
