Abstract
To clarify the changes of sympathetic nervous system(SNS) activity during the Japanese tea ceremony, we measured the heart rate change and respiration variability while an expert performed "Temae." In comparison to a preceding rest period, the R-R intervals of the heart rate became shorter and the variability of R-R intervals decreased during "Temae." Furthermore, respiratory frequency tended to increase and the respiration variability tended to decreased. Comparing the heart rate and respiration variability with motion of "Temae" observed in videos reveals that the variability of R-R interval and respiratory rate decreased during common actions. These results suggest that SNS activity increases at the common action during "Temae".
