Abstract
An elevator rope for a high-rise building is excited forcibly by the displacement of the building caused by earthquakes and wind forces. In this paper, simplified calculation methods, single degree of freedom (SDOF) system and finite element method (FEM), for estimating rope deflection during earthquake are presented by using buildings acceleration. Finite difference analyses of rope vibration are also performed to verify the validity of these simplified calculation methods. The calculated results of these simplified calculation methods are in fairly good agreement with that of the finite deference analyses.
