Abstract
This paper deals with vibration response caused by pulses in an earthquake from the viewpoint of the energy balance equation. Recently seismic waves including pulses have been measured in various earthquakes. It was reported that these pulses wave induce severe damage to relatively long period structures such as detached houses. However investigations regarding influences of pulses are not sufficient. Therefore this paper investigates influences of pulses from the viewpoint of energy balance. The investigation is implemented by analysis of an actual seismic wave including pulses, a vibration experiment and a simulation.
