Abstract
BTA deep hole drilling is used for producing holes of high aspect ratio. In this process, a chatter vibration sometimes occurs and a rifling mark is formed on the surface of a hole. The generation mechanism of a rifling mark in BTA deep hole drilling process is considered as a self-excited vibration caused by time delay. In this paper, a countermeasure against a rifling mark using an additional guide pad is proposed. According to the numerical results, it is confirmed that the perfect prevention of a rifling mark is possible by appropriate location of the guide pads.
