Abstract
The finite element method is applied to the buckling analysis of laminated composite shells of revolutiion. The axisymmetric shell elements are used and the displacement field within each element is represented by Fourier circumferential components. The buckling analyses are performed for the composite cylindrical and conical shells under axial compression. The validity of concept of equivalent cylindrical shells for the buckling analysis of conical shells is investigated.
