Abstract
The effect due to soft wall cylinder filled with water on vertical vibrations of the scaled railway vehicle carbody was investigated experimentally. Stationary vibration tests for 1/5 scaled model of Shinkansen vehicle carbody were carried out using electrodynamic exciter. On or under the carbody's floor, soft wall cylinder filled with water was installed. Compared to the original carbody, the peak value of Frequency Response Function (FRF) was well reduced in the region of lower frequency. And the vibrational amplitude of the entire floor is also reduced by almost 3/4. On the other hand, the changes of peak frequency was very small.
