Abstract

Hybrid simulation of current collection system provides more flexible than the existing testing equipment for evaluation of pantographs with considering dynamic interaction between pantograph and overhead catenary system. HS consists of a physical pantograph, an actuator to excite the pantograph head and a real-time simulator for the catenary model. The real-time simulator calculates the displacement of the contact wire using the contact force between the pantograph head and the actuator. The conventional catenary model consists of a modal contact wire model and a physical catenary wire model. A subject of this study is to develop a modal model of the catenary that has both higher accuracy and lower cost for the real-time simulation. Firstly, relationship between mass intervals of the catenary wire model and simulation results is investigated using an ideal simulation of the current collection system, emulated system. Then, after development of the catenary model in modal coordinates with the obtained mass interval, hybrid simulation is constructed in a simulation environment. The HS simulation shows that the mass interval and a number of adopted modes affect the accuracy of the HS system. Finally, HS testing is carried out using a pantograph testing equipment at the Railway Technical Research Institute, and it was found that the proposed HS system with the modal catenary model gives us more accurate results than the conventional one.
