Abstract

In the manufacture of single-shaft multi-stage compressors for process gases, factory tests are conducted to confirm that the shaft vibration satisfies the allowable value. One of the causes of the failure of the factory test is the increase of vibration due to the Morton effect. In this study, an analysis method for the Morton effect is developed for a centrifugal compressor, and evaluation indices for the Morton effect are proposed. In addition, the vibration-increasing phenomenon that occurred in factory tests are analyzed, and the knowledge obtained about the Morton effect in a single-shaft multi-stage type is reported.
