Abstract

This research proposes an analytical model that considers forces in the incompressible direction that generate on the sides of the porous metal. The analysis is considered for a system in which the porous metal is in contact with a rigid body, e.g. metal form is surrounded by housing for integrating as landing system. This method calculates the friction force on the side of the porous metal is determined by comparing the width of the porous metal after plastic deformation with and without a rigid body. Based on the proposed method, the effects of frictional forces in the incompressible direction on the energy absorption behavior are evaluated by analyzing the system with and without friction. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated by comparing the experimental and analytical results. In addition, problems with the current analytical model are clarified and countermeasures are discussed.
