In order to improve the accuracy of running simulations for railway vehicles equipped with a carbody tilting system using an active torsion bar (ATB), we have been building a back-drive torque estimation model of the rotary actuator when the power is lost. We measured the reaction torque produced by the actuator for inputs of various speeds and amplitudes. Based on the results, we constructed an estimation model that takes into account the frictional resistance, viscous resistance, and inertial resistance inside the actuator. Verification showed that the model is able to accurately estimate not only the static but also the dynamic back-drive torque of the actuator.
