Abstract

This paper proposes a control method for Active Mass Damper (AMD) based on model predictive control using mode response in super high-rise or mid-to-high-rise buildings. By estimating the response of each mode based on the building response observed in earthquakes and using the mode response estimated with a Kalman filter for model predictive control, the proposed AMD control method can control multiple modes, including higher-order modes, while considering constraints such as stroke and thrust of the AMD device. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing response to seismic disturbance through numerical analysis and shaking table tests using a six-story test model.
