Abstract
In curve design, controlling the macroscopic shape-feature that emerges from the combinations of shape elements is important because human beings tend to perceive overall shape-feature macroscopically. However, controlling the macroscopic shape-feature is difficult using conventional microscopic shape-information such as dimension and curvature. Therefore, in curve desired. In the present study, the method for representation of macroscopic shape-feature "complexity" using total absolute curvature was proposed. Relationship between total absolute curvature of diverse curved profiles (basic curved profiles and automobile side-views) and the evaluation of "complexity" in those curved profiles were analyzed. As a result, total absolute curvature was highly correlated with "complexity, " and the possibility of method for representation of macroscopic shape-feature was indicated.
